What Primary Years Students May Study

The exact support depends on the child’s age, current level and family goals.

🔢

Primary Mathematics

Builds confidence with numbers, patterns, reasoning and problem solving. Good Maths support helps children understand what they are doing — not only memorise steps.

Modern Foreign Languages

Primary French & Spanish

At Primary level, languages should be introduced gently — building confidence, vocabulary and curiosity rather than exam pressure.

🇫🇷

Primary French

A positive and confidence-building introduction to French. Children hear new sounds, build vocabulary and become more comfortable speaking aloud.

Why add languages at Primary level?

Early language learning builds listening skills, helps children hear different sounds, develops vocabulary gradually and reduces anxiety before languages become more formal at secondary. It also supports international or multilingual family goals and prepares the pathway to GCSE, IGCSE or A Level language study.

How It Works

How Primary Years
Online Lessons Work

Lessons are structured, clear and encouraging. The structure matches the child’s age, confidence and concentration level.

1

Short Explanations

Concepts introduced clearly and at a pace right for the child’s age.

3

Reading & Writing Tasks

Age-appropriate tasks in English, Maths, Science or languages.

5

Vocabulary & Games

Language learning and Science vocabulary introduced engagingly.

2

Guided Practice

Students practise with teacher support before working more independently.

4

Questions & Discussion

Teachers check understanding and encourage children to explain ideas.

6

Feedback & Encouragement

Positive feedback after every lesson — with parent updates on progress.

Younger children may need parent support with logging in and focus. Older Primary students often become more independent as lessons progress.

Looking Ahead

Primary Years & Lower Secondary Preparation

The Primary Years should prepare children for the next stage without making learning feel too pressured too early. The transition to Lower Secondary can feel easier when children have secure foundations.

Parent Support

What Parents Can Do at Home

Primary children often make progress when learning feels consistent and safe. Small routines can make a big difference.

Read regularly — even 10 minutes a day builds fluency

Practise number facts and times tables little and often

Talk about new vocabulary from lessons and books

Encourage writing — short notes, lists, stories or letters

Ask your child to explain ideas back to you

Review teacher feedback together after each lesson

Practise French or Spanish words in everyday moments

Create a quiet, consistent space for online lessons

Celebrate effort and steady progress — not just correct answers

Is This Right for Your Child?

Honest Guidance on Suitability

May suit your child if:

Your child is aged 5–11

Needs support with Maths, English or Science

Would benefit from introductory French or Spanish

Needs more confidence in core subjects

Is home educated or learning internationally

Needs British Curriculum online support

Is preparing for Lower Secondary

Can engage with online lessons with adult support

May not be right if:

Your child cannot safely engage with online lessons

Your child needs full-time in-person supervision

Your child needs specialist provision beyond online academic support

You need a registered school place

There is no reliable internet connection

There is no suitable adult support for a young child

This does not mean the child cannot be supported — it means the route or timing may need to be reviewed first.

Primary Years online learning is usually for children aged 5–11.
